Cosmos (ATOM) staking is a process where individuals actively participate in the verification and validation of transactions on the blockchain by holding and locking up a certain amount of Cosmos (ATOM) in a compatible wallet. Unlike traditional mining processes, Cosmos (ATOM) staking operates on the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Participants, or stakers, are selected to create new blocks and validate transactions based on the amount of Cosmos (ATOM) they have staked. In return for their contribution to network security, stakers receive additional Cosmos (ATOM) as rewards, providing a passive income stream.
